Why is your oral health so important? New studies are coming out on a seemingly continuous basic that affirm the connection between oral health and overall health.
For example, did you know that the same bacteria in the gums that causes gum disease is also the exact same bacteria that (when in the heart over a long enough period of time) is responsible for heart disease?
The mouth is the entry way to the body – all of the food and beverages you consume must first enter the mouth. Therefore, taking care of it and ensuring its health is one of the best ways to protect overall health! So, how does one do this in the first place? The first step in twice-daily brushing and daily flossing. This is the best and most direct way to protect your smile and remove harmful bacteria that can turn into plaque. The next most important thing is to schedule routine checkups and cleanings with your dentist. This way, any small oral health concerns can be stopped in their tracks before turning into anything serious.
